I’ve never understood the violence that erupts, sometimes even during a peaceful protest. Peaceful protests are part of our legacy of freedom of speech, but there are always those, in any group, who make bad decisions. And it’s not a political thing – just look what has happened after so many major sporting events. Perhaps it’s a testosterone thing, since so many of the incidents appear to have been started by men.
I suppose any time you have a group of diverse people gathered, there’s the risk that someone in the group has too much anger. I condemn riots. I support peaceful protests. Without them, our black citizens might still be sitting at the back of the bus.
