Intentional Walk: An Inside Look at the Faith That Drives the St. Louis Cardinals [Kindle Edition]

An inside look at the faith that guides the all-stars.

The St.
Louis Cardinals have long been one of the most successful franchises in the
major leagues. They have won 11 World Series titles and some of the most famous
players in the history of the game have worn the storied “Birds on the Bat”
uniform.

While that
on-field success has been well documented, Intentional
Walk is the first book which goes beyond the story of what happens on the
field to take an in-depth look at the men inside the Cardinal uniforms, and
examine how their strong Christian faith is one of the driving forces behind
their success.

Intentional Walk features the stories of Adam
Wainwright, David Freese, Lance Berkman, Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran, Jason
Motte and other members of the 2012 Cardinals, written as those players and the
rest of the team tried to repeat the 2011 world championship. The book talks
about how they became Christians and offers their testimony about what it means
for them to have God play such a prominent role in their lives.

Playing for
first-year manager Mike Matheny, a strong Christian as well, these men talk
about their success and failure, about the challenges that come from playing
baseball at the highest level, and how thankful and blessed they are to have
that God-given ability. In the end, however, what is far more important to them
is their life-long relationship they have established with Jesus Christ.

“Three Amazing Stories of Interaction” Must Read!

Meeting the Enemy: The Human Face of the Great War

A British soldier walked over to the German front line to deliver newspapers; British women married to Germans became “enemy aliens” in their own country; a high-ranking British POW discussed his own troops’ heroism with the kaiser on the battlefield.

These are just three amazing stories of interaction between the opposing sides in the Great War that eminent historian Richard van Emden has unearthed—incidents that show brutality, great humanity, and, above all, the bizarre nature of a conflict between two nations with long-standing ties of kinship and friendship. Meeting the Enemy reveals for the first time how contact was maintained on many levels throughout the war, and its stories—sometimes funny, often moving—give us a new perspective on the lives of ordinary men and women caught up in extraordinary events.

Brahma Dreaming: Legends from Hindu Mythology [Kindle Edition]

Review
“Spectacular” – The Guardian “Told in an elegant, precise prose, by turns rousing, witty, affectionate and portentous…the illustrations are absolutely and utterly stunning.” The Bookbag
Product Description
See the Hindu gods and goddesses as they have never been seen before! Brahma Dreaming is master storyteller John Jackson’s latest collaboration with the acclaimed artist, Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini. Jackson’s intriguing versions of the tales of the Hindus’ great gods are graced by Terrazzini’s brilliantly reimagined illustrations of the deities, each a masterpiece of detail and drama, reminiscent of Dulac and Rackham, and the glorious ‘Golden Age.’

These are the tales of the Trimurti – the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva – and Brahma Dreaming is divided into three sections representing their continuous forces of creation, preservation and destruction. The work begins with Lord Brahma dreaming the universe into being and from there unfolds an enthralling collection of interconnected tales that span the entire spectrum of human experience, dark illusions and earthly temptations.

Here are brave princes, divine divas and demon kings, family feuds and epic battles, burning loves and lies, tragic deaths and glorious rebirths. There are tales about dancing elephants, peacock warriors and monkey armies, all retold by Jackson with great character, warmth and wit. Terrazzini has been inspired to create what she describes as the best work of her career in Brahma Dreaming with over fifty exquisite fonts and illustrations hand-drawn in black ink.
About the Author
John Jackson was born in 1929 in rural Devon, England, close to where he lives today. He is an author, lawyer, businessman, and political and constitutional campaigner.

By the Time We Got to Woodstock: The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Revolution of 1969 [Kindle Edition]

(Book). A fast-paced, fun, and sometimes brutal look at America’s most volatile and creative year in music 1969: a time of euphoria and devastation, freedom and assassination, revolution and retribution, moonwalks and sit-ins, love-ins and race riots, sex, drugs, and guns. Idyllic college campuses became killing fields and inner cities went up in flames as the drumbeat of popular music tried to drown out the drums of war. 1969 was birthed through the visions and violence of 1968. By the Time We Got to Woodstock breathlessly documents a year that saw more music-as-manifesto and rock-as-revolution than ever before. At one mad outdoor party after another from Miami to Denver, and from Woodstock to Altamont cracks in the promised hippie utopia quickly turned to canyons. This was the year that saw the Beatles go supernova while Bob Dylan hightailed it to Nashville. From the Byrds, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix, the Airplane, and Janis Joplin to the Velvet Underground, the Mothers of Invention, Funkadelic, and the Fugs, 1969 stands up as a decade-smashing anomaly in the annals of rock’n’roll captured gloriously in this blistering book.
